Hair, stress, and what to do when one starts affecting the other.

I’ve been under a lot of stress lately. I’m not even really sure why. I think it mainly has to do with not having enough time to do stuff, or managing the time I have to do stuff badly. I’ll be the first to admit, I often get overwhelmed when I HAVE to get something done that I don’t really want to do.

Anyway.

I’ve been totally convinced that my hair is falling out. I don’t know if it actually is, any more than normal, but I shed a lot and get kind of alarmed when a clump (which is actually just a few strands) falls out in my hand. My hair is pretty fine and can look somewhat thin if I let it go unwashed for a day or so, or if I straighten it. I often have my own hair stuck all over my shirt and end up picking it off, wondering when I’ll be bald. My co-workers can tell you I’m often complaining that “all of my hair is falling out and I’m going to be bald soon and have to wear a wig”. Dramatic? Maybe.

So I bought some stuff.

Image

The first thing I picked up is Kerastase Initialiste. This is a serum that comes in a really fancy bottle that would probably smash into a zillion pieces if I dropped it. Basically, it is to improve the health of your scalp. It’s a light, pleasant smelling serum that you squeeze out of a pipette and massage into your scalp while your hair is still wet. I’ve been using it consistently for a few weeks and have definitely noticed new growth…I sort of have a “halo” of new hair growing in. I don’t really know if it has done anything for strength, and I haven’t noticed reduced “shedding” with this alone. Not sure if it’s worth the exorbitant price.

Image

The next thing I bought, because I hadn’t seen *that* much difference with the Initialiste, is the Nioxin System 3 Cleanser & Conditioner. This stuff is awesome. It smells like Andes mints and really feels refreshing…especially the conditioner which tingles to the point of almost being annoying. I have DEFINITELY noticed my hair looks thicker and healthier since using this. I’m not sure if it has reduced hair fallout yet, but I do realize that the amount falling out might be normal anyway. I was on the fence about buying this (I stared at the shelf in ULTA for a good half hour wondering what to do), but I’m glad I did. I have noticed that my scalp gets less oily using this, also, so I can go longer between washings. If you are interested in Nioxin I recommend going to their site to find the best one for your hair type, as they have several depending on the condition and texture of your hair.

Glamglow Super Clearing Mud Mask

Glamglow Super Clearing Mud Mask

I was totally sure that all the positive reviews for this were planted by the company.

Maybe not.

I got a generous sample of this at my local Sephora yesterday, and immediately tried it once I got home.

Magic. I’m not kidding.

It tingles (read: burns) a little. Okay, a lot. My skin is fairly sensitive and it didn’t drive me too crazy. I left it on for about 15 minutes.

WHERE ARE MY PORES. THEY ARE GONE.

WHAT IS THIS SORCERY.

I’m not joking. This thing vacuums out your pores and leaves you with radiant, glowing, healthy pink “I just came from vacation/a workout/shopping at Nordiska Kompaniet all day” skin.

It is expensive, but so, so so sososososososo worth it.

Meet Thor!

Meet Thor! He was born on February 23rd. He is a red Australian shepherd. I fell in love with him when I went with some friends to go visit, they are taking his brother home so I feel good about having puppy family close by. :) He comes home on the 20th of April and I can’t wait!

Funny thing about the name: I named him on the fly, it was the first name that popped into my head and it totally stuck. When I went home and looked up his birthday on my calendar, it turns out that is the namnsdag (name day) for Thorsten! What a strange coincidence!

Long overdue product post!

Sorry for the hiatus, I’ve been super busy…you know those weeks where you feel like you just come home from work and go straight to bed, only to get up and do it all over? Yeah.

I’ve been using some new products for a while now, and I’m eager to share them!

Image

From left to right:

Nars Sheer Glow Foundation: I’m not crazy about foundation, but I really like this one. It has sheer to medium coverage, and comes in a TON of shades. I wasn’t sure which one to get, so after swatching what seemed like a million, I went with Deauville, which is described as “ light with neutral balance of pink and yellow undertones.” This works really well with the BeautyBlender sponge, by the way! (Then again, what doesn’t?)

Castor Oil: This is a weird one, I know. It surprised me too. Initially I bought this to try and regrow my butchered eyebrows. I ended up slathering my entire face with it, and I kid you not, I have now replaced my nighttime moisturiser with it. Completely. It is sticky and smells like ramen noodles (that’s the best I can describe it; you’ll have to smell for yourself), but it is hands down the most crazy awesome thing I’ve accidentally found ever. I have had NO skin issues whatsoever since using this. No pimples, no weird redness, nothing. It’s amazing. Oh, and my eyebrows have grown back. In days. There are a ton of uses for this stuff, so I suggest you pick up your bottle here. Use code BUJ409 for some money off!

Skin79 Super Plus Beblesh Balm Triple Functions (Hot Pink BB Cream) SPF 25 PA++: That’s a mouthful, eh? This Korean BB cream has a nice matte finish (but not too matte), medium to full coverage, comes in ONE tone (sorry), and boasts anti-aging & sun protection. It’s hard to find, I got mine here. Apparently there is a trademark on the word “blemish” in Korea, so they use made up words like “beblesh”…I thought that was pretty funny. You have to watch out, as there are fakes on the market, so buy from a reputable seller.

Nars Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer: I was impressed with Nars’ range of shades so I decided to go with a tinted moisturizer, since I don’t like wearing foundation every day. This stuff is great, I’m already paranoid about running out. It has great coverage, matches my skintone (I went with the shade Finland), lasts all day, has SPF, and doesn’t irritate my skin AT ALL. I like it so much more than Laura Mercier’s tinted moisturizer (which I will never repurchase).

All about shellac

Many of you have asked about my shellac manicure. I’ve shopped around for the best manicurist, as a lot of them I’ve tried have been a bit sloppy with the technique. Here are some tips to consider when finding someone to do a shellac manicure:

-Application. The coats should not be thick. The base coat only cures for a few seconds! Many people cure it for longer and it does not last as well. Also, they need to be careful not to get it on your cuticles or skin.

-Filing. I recommend round, rather than square. I don’t like square tips, and I think the round lasts longer because there are no edges to catch on stuff.

-Colours. Find someone who is up on CND’s newest shades. Otherwise you’ll get bored with the selection.

-CND products. I highly recommend finding someone that exclusively uses these.

-Removal. Mine uses cotton balls soaked in acetone, wrapped in foil, covered in a towel and then placed on a heating pad. It comes off flawlessly.

Here you see my latest, CND in Hollywood. This is after 5 days:

If you get this colour you can touch up any chips using OPI “The thrill of Brazil”. It’s very close, I have it on a few chips here!

Butterbeer at Whole Foods!

Butterbeer at Whole Foods!

I was really excited to find this at my local Whole Foods Market. Some of you may be familiar with the Reeds, Inc. line of beverages, like Virgil’s Root Beer. Well, now they’ve branched out to “Butterscotch Beer”, which is everything but Harry Potter branded. It’s as close as you can get to having an overpriced Butterbeer at Universal Studios. :)

As for the taste, it smells like it would be annoyingly sweet but it is really quite light, vanilla-y, and has just the right amount of butterscotch. Quite tasty! Look for “Flying Cauldron Butterscotch Beer” at your local grocery.

Lördagsgodis

Hello!
I’m taking it easy today.

20130316-120247.jpg

My chocolates from Fauchon arrived this morning. I had to try one. Maybe not the best breakfast…

I also put my Tea Rex to good use. He’s adorable, but not a very good tea strainer. The leaves fall out of him & he’s hard to clean :(

Have a happy Saturday!

So I bought a dress just because it was cheap

Last night I was on The Outnet looking at their clearance (which is amazing, by the way) and stumbled upon this dress by Alexander Wang. It retails for $225 and I got it for $35. I don’t know when I’m going to wear it…it’s totally not something I would normally buy, but for that price it was hard to pass up. I mean, my toothbrush cost 3x that much.

I don’t normally do strapless, mainly because I prefer to keep my tattoos covered most of the time. We’ll see how this looks on, if I don’t like it it’ll most likely end up on eBay (where I will be listing a lot of stuff later).

If you would like one too, they still have some here!

Beautyblender

Beautyblender

I was skeptical of this thing- I mean really, how good could a sponge be? It’s a sponge.

Nope. This isn’t a sponge. It’s a MAGICAL BEAUTY TOOL. I don’t know HOW it works as well as it does, but it does. You soak it in water and it expands, then you squeeze it until it is damp, and use it to apply your foundation, bb cream, whatever. And it does it. Magically. Without lines. It’s totally even. Magic.

It is worth $19.95. For a sponge. Really.

Staycation! Day two.

I had a pretty good day yesterday…

They put a new frozen yogurt/juice bar inside of Bloomingdales. I’ve gone there 2 days in a row now! It’s quite expensive but very good. It’s called 40 Carrots and there is virtually no information on it, I don’t think they even have a website! Also it is the name of an unrelated skincare line so that’s really confusing.

Image

all the fruit is fresh!

So far I’ve tried the Popeye juice (spinach, carrot, parsley & apple) which tasted much sweeter than it sounds, the Sweetie juice (orange, carrot and strawberry), and tasted a smoothie which was freaking amazing…I think it was called Tropical Sunrise.

Image

They drizzle honey inside and stick strawberries to the cup!

my sweetie juice

Look at how ORANGE that is. Also, look at how well my Shellac manicure is holding up! I’ve found a new manicurist and she is just the greatest…

After sufficiently hydrating I was able to embark on a mission yesterday, the contents will be revealed later on (drumroll please):

Image

oh, I went there.

Oh yeah! I almost forgot. When I got home, this little guy was waiting for me. For those of you who don’t know, I have an extensive collection of Uglydolls, I think I’ve been collecting for around 10 years now.
